A TSUNAMI evacuation drill - the first in darkness on Phuket - was held in Kamala last night with about 200 people taking part.
With the sixth anniversary of the big wave coming on December 26, the night drill was seen as a practical test of preparedness for local emergency services.
As a drill, it did not put the warning and alarm systems to the test. Some tourists were forewarned that the drill was taking place. Others asked what was happening when the tsunami warning was broadcast in multiple languages.
Vice Governor Veerawat Janpen said he thought the drill was not ''100 percent perfect'' but satisfactory for a first drill at night.
Emergency services from Cherng Talay and fire engines from Patong took part.
