Phuket's fun and food Red Cross Fair runs until January 10

THE RED CROSS 12-day festival at Phuket City's Saphan Hin public park was opened by the Governor, Dr Preecha Ruangjan, on December 30.

This year's festival includes a lucky draw for a Toyota Hilux pickup, three motorcycles, five gold necklaces, five refrigerators, 20 television sets and 30 bicycles.

Activities at the fair will include one village one product stalls, the sale of furniture made by prisoners at Phuket Jail, local food of many kinds, as well as a carnival.

The fair will run every day from 9.45am until late at night.

Lucky draws are also going to be held for washing machines, microwaves and mobile telephones.

One positive from the 2004 tsunami is the work of the Finnish Red Cross. They have stayed on to create a vital regional blood centre on Phuket and a scheme to save lives at sea.
