Early arrivers sit back and await a feast of Phuket sound and food

Phuket Musiq a Feast for Ears and Tummies

PHUKET: VIPs and a large opening night crowd turned out last night in Phuket City to launch the World Musiq Festival celebrations leading up to HM The King's 84th birthday on December 5.

Phuket Governor Triu Augkaradacha accompanied Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation chief executive Paiboon Upatising, Phuket City Mayor Somjai Suwansupapana, Phuket Police Commander Major general Pekad Tantipong and Phuket Passport Office Chief Benjapa Tubthong to the festival opening at Saphan Hin public park in Phuket City.

Performing alongside some of the top world music celebrities will be Phuket's World Musiq Fountain, nightly at 7.30pm, 8.30pm and 9.30pm, adding a different touch.

Beginning at 5.30pm nightly, performers taking the Phuket City stage include Acoustic World, the Sea Gypsies of Rawai (7.15pm Dec 3) Amereicana (9pm Dec 3) Southern World Music (9pm Dec 4) Caravan World Isarn (10pm Dec 4) with the Father of Love tribute to HM The King beginning at 8pm on December 5.

Last night it was evident that people came as much for the food as the fun, with celebrities from Bangkok joining in to brighten Phuket's evenings.

World music has been a growing phenomenon for more than 20 years as musicians from traditional backgrounds found an audience among popular music listeners.

Sings are from last night that with the continued support of the Phuket administrative organisation, the World Musiq Festival could become a regular Phuket fixture.

Traditional merit-making marks December 5 tributes early in the morning all over Phuket, with evening celebrations planned for Loma Park in Patong from 3pm, with the Phuket Governor arriving at 4pm, Karon Municipal Offices where there will be fireworks from 6pm and a nightl walking street along Kata between tonight and then, as well as a candlelgiht ceremony at Kathu Municipal officer from 7pm.

Other tributes are expected to be held in public parks all across Phuket.
