PHUKET: FC Phuket produced a thrilling 1-0 win over Songkhla FC before a packed house tonight in their biggest Division One victory yet.
Away from home in the southern region derby, Phuket's Hulks went into the match as underdogs but emerged full of bite, still running hard for promotion.
Jongrak Pakdee, who joined FC Phuket from Bangkok Glass in July, gave the Hulks their bragging rights in the 72nd minute before a crowd estimated at 20,000 or more in Songkhla Town.
It could have been a difficult night. Twice earlier in the match, Phuket scored, and twice the linesmen waved offside. Third time lucky.
Hundreds of fans who made the trip from Phuket for the big match will return home delighted.
Jongrak Pakdee joined the Hulks mid-season in a draft that also included French goalkeeper Jonathan Matjas, Boubacar Ssoufou from Muanthong United, Aussean Nissim from TTM Pitchit,and Nithipong Somsuwan from Nonthaburi FC.
Pakdee, a star winger at 20, is said to be ''just on loan'' to Phuket for six months.
The imports now seem to be producing dividends and keeping Hulk hopes alive. FC Phuket was eighth on the table, with Songkhla fourth, before tonight's match.
