AT THIS time of the year, the island's reporters and photographers do the rounds of the parties, just like everybody else.
Being communications professionals, they usually have a bit more experience and a nose for finding free food and drink.
A gaggle of press people gathered on Saturday night to farewell former Phuket Gazette managing editor, Chris Husted, who is heading to the Brunei Times, a seven-day broadsheet newspaper that began in the exotic sultanate in 2006.
Turning up to say so long were some of the best-known bylines on the island, including Alasdair Forbes, who was managing editor at the Gazette before Chris, former Gazette editor Rungtip Hongjakpet Izmen, and former Gazette chief reporter Sangkhae Leelanapaporn.
The evening at the Boat Yard in Phuket City inevitably took a turn down memory lane now and again.
It also happened to be Chris's birthday, so he was required to perform a blow job in public, and, as Queer News might report, probably not for the last time.
His contract is for a year and he is expected to return to Phuket for more candles, cake and good company.
Earlier, the Bangkok Hospital Phuket entertained members of the media at its Christmas-New Year party with a lively evening of dunk-the-model, plus a shooting gallery.
No wonder these people are advocates of free speech. They get plenty of practice with the food and drink.

I heard a rumour that there was going to be a party for all ex-editors of the Phuket Post but that it was cancelled because no venue on the island can accommodate so many people.
Editor: That may have been the case once but the Phuket Brewery seats about 1800 in comfort these days.
