What Phuketwan says:
Just as the travelling population gets set to begin to use Phuket's new bus terminal, we discover the best thing about the old bus terminal. This downstairs-upstairs restaurant is on a corner of Phang Nga Road, opposite the Royal Phuket City Hotel. Upstairs, a broad verandah revives the wonderful grace of a bygone era. The broad columns are freckled with elegant shells and now-faded photos from Phuket's past. The buffet-style servery dishes up great food at reasonable cost, and this is a favorite venue for locals who want to do deals over lunch. Dessert is spectacular, Phuket style, so sweet that a regular posse of honey bees hover above the coverings. The old photos repay a wander while waiting to be served: Phuket must have been a splendid place when these shots were taken. The new bus station will be great for improved facilities. But will it have anything to match this gem? We doubt it. Passengers who arrive at the new bus terminal hungry for a taste of real Phuket will simply have to hail a motorcycle taxi and say: ''Take me to the old bus station.''

How to find it: Phang Nga Road in the oldish part of town, opposite the Royal Phuket City.

Parking: Plenty of street spaces

I'd forgotten all about this place! I used to love going there (in the days before I could afford a car and went everywhere by bus) and will happily return. Thanks PW, a meal down memory lane!
