THE night should have been called 'The Diva at the Eva: Tata Young by the Beach.'
A concert by the Thai super-songstress brought 500 people to the Eva Beach at Rawai on Phuket last night.
Or maybe it is actually Chalong? Anyway, it's one of those places that tends to be a bit in-between both.
What the crowd got for the trip, however, was mostly earfuls of delight.
With the debate continuing about how much music should be permitted at Phuket beachfronts after dark, it was refreshing to see on the front of the Eva brochure the line: ''Close your eyes, listen to the Sea!''
Indeed, what a pleasant sea change. The best lines last night, though, came from Tata Young in a bunch of great songs.
She has to be the next-best thing to listening to the sea.
Did she live up to expectations? Judging from the reactions of her fans in the audience, most definitely.
The sit-down dinner was a bright start to a new project, and it attracted plenty of Phuket's movers and shakers, although later in the evening there appeared to be more shakers than movers.
There were very few leavers, however, as the party kicked on without riling the neighbors (they were probably there, enjoying themselves) into the small hours today.
Eva Beach is now selling off the plan. As always with modern graphic images, the bayside villas look extremely desirable places to spend a lifetime.
The 22 units, many with private pools and seafront perspectives, range in price from 27 million baht to 37.9 million baht.
If the plans go as well as the party, we envisage nothing but a round of applause and an encore for more.
And who knows? If you ask nicely, maybe they will even give you Tata Young's telephone number.

The party was great! The hospitality first class!
The impact to the neighborhood was intense. Weeks of tearing down buildings and preparing for the party, and a military style take over of the Soi by Eva Beach.
But I must say the Eva Beach folks were great! This beef is against the foreign developers taking over Phuket, not the people that are working there.
