PHUKET: A free Phuket Electronic Music and Dance Festival 2012 is expected to attract 10,000 people to Karon beach, on Phuket's west coast, this weekend.
The Facebook page for the event lists DJs playing through the night until 5am on both December 30 and December 31.
The event, backed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the local Karon-Kata Municipality, will also promote talented local DJs with prizes of 20,000 baht, 10,000 baht and 5000 baht.
Billboards along the Karon beachfront also promote a foam party. This year's theme is is ''White Winter Party.''
The centre of the action will be close to Karon Circle, where the women's volleyball was once held each year.
Most resorts hold special New Year events and activities are planned all over Phuket.
