PHUKET: Ironman legend Jurgen Zack will be leading a SpiceRoads road bike tour from Bangkok to Phuket, Thailand, on September 8-15.

Hailing from Germany, Zack holds eight worldwide Ironman titles, with 8 top 10 finishes at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. He won the European Championship five times between 1989 and 1999. In 1999 he set the Ironman bike course record of 4:14:16 in Roth, Germany.

On the Bangkok to Phuket tour cyclists will ride 700 km in six cycling days. The group, which will be limited to 20 participants who have road riding experience, will ride along both the east and the west coast of Thailand and spend nights at resorts along the way, with afternoons free to enjoy the beach or the pool.

Here's what spiceroads.com reports:

STARTING in Bangkok we meet up for a trip briefing and an intimate dinner with Jurgen Zack. Here's your first chance to talk with the man who in 1999 set the Ironman bike course record of 4:14:16 in Roth, Germany.

The next morning we are transported out of the city to start our riding. We ride a total of 700 kilometres in six stages on smooth tarmac through quaint little villages, past Buddhist temples and along some spectacular coastline scenery.

Crossing the Isthmus of Kra will prove to be hilly but offer up great scenery as a reward. We continue down Thailand's west coast to the rugged beauty of Khao Lak before crossing the bridge to the island of Phuket.

The riding will vary in speeds, with slow starts to get you warmed up of between 25-30 km/h and then speed up depending on the terrain and the group to up to 45 km/h for sections. This is not a race, but an opportunity for you to spend time with an elite athlete while you are both doing what you love!

The afternoons will be free to enjoy the beach or the pool at beautiful resorts before indulging in some fresh off-the-boat seafood. This will be also your opportunity to hear some of Jurgen Zack's tales of racing against triathlete legends such as Mark Allen, Dave Scott and Greg Welch.

We end our tour at Nai Yang beach, among the longest on Phuket island. Extend your stay for some swimming and running training at Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club where Jurgen Zack heads the Triathlon Academy, or stay on the beach for some well-deserved rest.
