Regatta Opening: French Food Festival

FOOD and music met and married each other neatly as about 200 guests celebrated the opening of Mom Tri's Boathouse Regatta restaurant at the Royal Phuket Marina tonight.

The Regatta's opening party is also the launch of the Boathouse's 8th Annual French Cuisine Festival, which runs until March 8.

The festival is usually held at the Boathouse Wine and Grill at Kata, but this year the Regatta will play host.

Tonight, as Phuketwan's Photo Album demonstrates, was a good, hot night to start cooking.

The grand opening cocktail party was followed by the opening of the French Food Festival by France's Ambassador to Thailand, Laurent Bili.

Having Jean-Noel Lumineau on board to oversee all Mom Tri restaurants in Phuket will certainly give the place an enviable boost.

He has held the Maitre Cuisinier de France distinction for 12 years, something only granted to 300 chefs worldwide, and which is earned largely by proving your worth in culinary training and development.

With its five-star setting comes five-star prices, but the RPM Regatta is reaching out to locals with a residents card for 500 baht that will give diners 25 percent off a la carte food and drinks and a 10 percent discount on wine and champagne.

A glass of happy hour wine is 90 baht (plus service and tax charges) from 5pm-7pm daily. People tend to cling to celebrities in order to escape their own dreary lives, and for many the Regatta will offer the same.

The swish marina setting, the gleaming yachts nearby, the fresh and ample food, all washed down with a nice wine, it's the kind of place where worries melt away, a place to go to remind yourself how lucky you are to be living in Phuket.

With Mom Tri's Boathouse Regatta, in providing that much-needed escape, it seems safe to say that another star is born.

During the festival a set four-course menu costs 1200 baht or 2000 baht with wine for each course.

A cheese buffet will also be available, for 750 baht for all 18 imported cheeses or 380 baht for a sampling of three cheeses.

A cocktail party followed by dinner opened the new Oasis restaurant by Mom Tri, who also has a second restaurant due to open soon. But that is it for now on Phuket, he told Phuketwan.
