Sailing off Phuket on the Jabu in delightful Phang Nga Bay

SAILING is suddenly sexier now with the advent of Jabuticaba, a beautiful vessel that sets new standards for sight-seeing around Phang Nga Bay.

The motto, ''Have a Jabu Day,'' is being used to attract an audience. But judging from an outing on the wonderful vessel on Saturday, that shouldn't be too hard.

This is a sophisticated treat at a splendid price. And there are not many better backdrops to a trip or a party than the dramatic stacks and islands of Phang Nga Bay.

A day's outing comes for just 3400 baht per person between May and October and 4000 baht from November to April, with children under 12 at half price.

Phuketwan enjoyed an introductory day on the bay among 30 other guests that included hotel pickup, stop-offs for kayaking and swimming, a gourmet Thai meal, a visit to a quiet island beach, and some dancing and romancing.

Now that's a pretty good way to forget the rest of the world and its woes, with a Jabu Day. The pickup comes at 9am and visitors are returned at 7pm.

Jabuticaba, built in Turkey, has twin masts and is 24 metres, long enough to offer plenty of deck space to laze or enjoy the view. Sunset with champagne is something special.

The boat has bars, sundecks, radar, and eight en-suite double cabins for people who want to party longer than a day. Jabuticaba is based at Yacht Haven.

A wedding with a glorious backdrop is not such a bad suggestion, either. It could be tempting for any bride.
