DANCERS took to a stage at Jungceylon in Patong on Wednesday night to open Phuket's first international dance festival.

In a change to the program, all performances are now free and will be staged in the public arena at Jungceylon. Dance clinics will run at Rajabhat University.
Shows are also set for Chiang Mai and Bangkok as part of the festival. More than 600 dancers and performing artists will join the event.
Art exhibitions and outdoor dance workshops will also be held.
March 18-21 Free public performances from 6pm to 8pm at the Port stage in Jungceylon, Patong.
Free workshops on Argentine tango (March 19), flamenco (March 20) and contemporary dance (March 21) will also be held, from 4pm to 5.30pm.
March 20 and 21 Master classes at Phuket Rajabhat University theater, 11am to 3pm.
Plans to hold separate performances at SF Cinema City have been altered.
The main performances will be held at Jungceylon, beginning at the new time of 4pm, with a spotlight performance at 6pm.
Shows are scheduled as follows:
March 19 'Touch', a contemporary dance by Oplas Theatre, Italy.
March 20 'The Last Silver Crane', a contemporary dance collaboration from Thailand, Israel and Sri Lanka. Directed and performed by Ido Tadmor, music by Sinnapa Sarasas, accompanied by Ravibandhu Vidyapathy, a leading percussionist from Sri Lanka, with performances by Julachart Arunyanak and May Yimsai from Thailand.
March 21 The top performers from the previous two nights' shows return for an encore.

The International Dance Festival is being organised by the Friends-of-the-Arts Foundation, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Ministry of Culture Office of Contemporary Arts and Culture together with 12 embassies.
