THE THIRD FLEET is farewelling one of its boats on Friday, March 28 at Cape Panwa. The same day, a group of turtles set sail.
Visitors are invited to farewell the Royal Phuket from 9am to 4pm and go on board to see an exhibition about the vessel's activities in protecting the region over the past two years.
The Royal Phuket can be boarded at the deep sea port at Cape Panwa.
Children are welcome, and there will be free food and drink available as part of the thank-you from Phuket, the island, to Phuket, the ship.
The Royal Phuket has been patrolling the Andaman coast, on the lookout for smugglers, drug-runners and boats with illegal immigrants.
It will soon be sailing to Sattahip Naval Base in Chonburi and patrolling the Gulf of Thailand from now on.
Replacing the Royal Phuket on April 1, when the boat will be sailing from the island, will be the Royal Songkla.
The Royal Phuket will take invited guests on a couple of short voyages on Saturday, March 29, and its official farewell ceremony will be held from 6.37pm.

Friday is a big day for the Navy because it also marks the 15th Laguna Phuket Annual Turtle Release from 4pm-6pm.
The Governor of Phuket and Miss Thailand will be among the dignitaries at the beachfront near the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket.
With children??????????????????s activities and seaside fun for all ages, the event raised funds for the sea turtle conservation program run by the Royal Thai Navy and Phuket Marine Biological Centre.
A cash contribution of 2000 baht wins the opportunity to release one of 70 hatchlings.
Donations are exclusively for sea turtle conservation measures, including public education and environmental legislation efforts.
