Three-Day Auto Race Fest Revs Up for Phuket Track

Tuesday, November 9, 2010
PHUKET'S first taste of auto racing comes this month with the Phuket Honda Racing Fest 2010, organisers announced today.

From November 26-28 the Saphan Hin public park in Phuket City will be converted to a two-kilometre racing circuit for hot Jazzes and Civics doing loops at top speed.

Racing will take place from 7am to 5pm on the weekend with up to a thousand people coming in track teams to support 100 vehicles. Locals will be able to test the track, too.

Phuket's leg will be the fifth and final in a nationwide series that saw 50,000 people attend the Chiang Mai leg last month. Temporary grandstands will be erected to give hundreds a good view over the entire circuit.

Honda Division Manager Oranuch Pruckwattanananon said: ''We've been looking at Phuket for years and it's the perfect international setting for this kind of event. Everybody is happy to let this event happen.''

It is not known whether nearby residents have been warned about noise and crowds, but they can expect both.

Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha and Phuket Tourism Authority of Thailand Director Bangornrat Shinaprayoon led local dignitaries at the launch of the racing program at the new Honda Service Centre in Phang Nga Road, Phuket City.

Racing begins soon after the roads close and the track is inspected at 10am on November 26. Practice and qualifying sessions will be held on November 27 for the main races on November 28.

Some Thai superstars are expected to be starters. Other activities in the lead-up to the three-day fest will include safe driving courses.

Go-karts and defensive driving courses will be part of the fest at the Phuket City track. Prize presentations mark the end of racing at 4.30pm on November 28.

More typos - better to employ a proof reader!

That's just a brain fade. Even the New York Times has those. A typo is far more serious.
