SAFETY in the water off Phuket beaches is being improved through a series of lifesaving carnivals for kids aged five to 15.
The next one comes on Satuday, May 9 at Kata, near Club Med, with Phuket Lifeguard Club organising a variety of events.
A date has also been set for the second annual Patong Lifesaving Carnival, with 90 events scheduled to be held on the beach on Sunday, July 12.
Representatives from many parts of Australia and probably Japan are expected to participate.
The children at Kata have scaled down events that include a beach sprint, a board race, a beach flags race, swimming races and the popular tug of war.
Running from 9am for three hours, the event is free and has competitions across three age groups: Under 8 (5-7) 8-11 and 12-15.
Drinks will be provided. All events will have prize medals for first, second and third place.
Parents or guardians must sign a form to permit a child to participate.
