A LARGE entertainment venue capable of holding up to 2000 people is under construction in Phuket City, with a boutique brewery providing the venue with a name.
The Phuket Brewery is set to open at the Tesco-Lotus intersection, opposite the supermarket. Thai rock icon Carabao has already been booked for the first show, on November 21.
Managers at the venue expects a succession of Thai superstars and probably international acts will come to Phuket to perform there.
The Phuket Brewery is being brought to the island by the people behind Phuket City's milk business.
The Deachkerd family, which diversified from its large local dairy by opening the landmark Dairy Hut restaurant in Sam Kong five years ago, also owns the land on which the Phuket Brewery is being built.
While details remain to be sorted between now and November, the brewery will be aimed at families as well as young people.
Indoors, there will be a large auditorium hall with national stars booked to perform at least once a month.
The technology for making beer locally will be provided by a German company and the Phuket version will be made on the premises. This will be the only retail outlet for the brand.
Visitors will be able to see the beer as it goes through various stages of production, then consume the finished product.
Large German-style beer steins are expected to be popular, with a beer hall atmosphere and beer hall food available.
While a large carpark is being created behind the building, mimivans will bring guests from all over the island, similar to the FantaSea fleet, to avoid excessive drinking and driving.
The venue will open at 5pm and close at 2am, with regular nightly performances by variety acts to entertain the crowds in between visits by top-line performers from Bangkok and elsewhere.
Spokesperson Apichana Singsanjit told Phuketwan that the location was ideal because it was close to Phuket City, yet not far from Patong and other west coast resort towns.
''At present, we are establishing a network of resorts so guests who want to visit the Phuket Brewery can book an evening out that includes the cost of food, entertainment and transport,'' she said.
''We want to make sure that the venue provides good value and that the prices are all available beforehand.
''Anyone who wants to come will simply have to call us to have transport sent to their resort.''
Outdoors, the venue will provide more entertainment and seafood dinner in a relaxed environment.
