With the Pattaya region awash, Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi face a 40 percent chance of rain today with wild seas up to two metres and winds ranging to 35 kmh.
Reports posted online revealed that the storm flooded several Phuket City roads, making at least one impassable to small vehicles, before 9.30am.
The weather should improve ''sometime tomorrow,'' according to Phuket forecasters. Meanwhile, the allocation of nearly one billion baht to Phuket City district and Patong in next year's budget should bring some flooding relief.
According to officials, the severe flooding that has inundated Pattaya and much of Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district in the wake of tropical storm Vamco was made worse by encroachment of public canals and waterway banks.
Despite the bad weather, there was no ban today on small boats putting to sea.
The body of Phuket's storm victim, Boonchew Tongdonmeng, found on Kata beach about 7pm, has been taken to Phuket Vachira Hospital.
Is there any problem in Thailand that doesn't lead back to corrupt officials? How can you encroach long term on public land without the involvement of officials turning a blind eye?
