UPDATE

RELATIVES of the man have been informed. He was Per Torben Lindgren. His body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City.

Original Report

PHUKET: A Swedish man slashed his throat and bled to death this afternoon after saying goodbye to his Thai wife, Phuket police believe.

The man hugged and kissed his wife and professed his love for her when she left their neat Rawai house to go shopping about 1pm, say officers from Chalong Police Station.

When the woman returned about 3.45pm, the house was locked. The woman managed to gain entry with the help of neighbors.

Inside, police said, the woman found the body of her husband, aged 58, on a bed. It appeared he had slashed his throat and bled into a bucket to avoid making a mess, police said.

Investigations are continuing. The man and the woman had been together for about three years on Phuket, said officers.

The woman said she and her husband had not been arguing. Yesterday he had paid 210,000 baht rent on the house for a year.

She said her husband suffered from a chronic lung complaint and had expressed the desire to end his life.

Phuketwan has been given the name of the man but will not publish it until relatives in Sweden have been notified.

People feeling depressed or distressed are advised to talk to family or friends about their concerns and if necessary, to contact a doctor.

Free will at the very last. My respect to Khun Per and condolences to his family. Sad no better way for him to end his live more dignified. What a shock for his wife, only little comfort in his thoughtful moves before.
