PHUKET: Eight bombs and a grenade attack on a Royal Thai Navy vessel tonight left three people dead and 55 injured in the southern Thailand province of Pattani.
More bombs followed within two hours in neighboring Narathiwat province, according to a usually reliable source.
It's not known what the motive was for the spate of bombs and the attack on the ship, which came about 7.30pm at Pithep Pier.
The Tor229 was fired on three times, apparently with an M79 grenade launcher.
One of the three grenades struck the vessel. The ship was taking water, according to early reports.
Details have yet to come on where the victims were killed and injured. Those wounded in the concerted attacks were taken to Pattani Hospital and other medical treatment centres in the province.
More than 5400 people have been killed in the insurgency in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces since 2003.
