Rape Bid Leaves Chinese Tourist Badly Slashed on Samui

Tuesday, May 27, 2014
PHUKET: Police on the holiday island of Samui are seeking a Thai man who slashed two Chinese tourists with a cutter when his rape attempt failed early yesterday.

One woman required 45 stitches after the attack and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Thai International Samui Hospital.

Samui police say security camera footage bears out the Chinese women's account of the attack at Chaweng.

The two 26-year-old women, who arrived on Samui on Sunday, went out on the island that night and were walking back to their resort about 2am on Monday.

Security cameras detected a Thai man following them and what's believed to be an attempted rape took place at the women's accommodation.

One woman was slashed on an arm but the other woman was the target of multiple slashes requiring 45 stitches.

The man, aged 20 to 25, escaped with 100,000 baht in cash, a telephone and an iPad.

Koh Samui is not part of Thailand curfew?
What the 2 tourists were doing at 2 AM?

Sounds like a horrific incident and I hope the CCTV footage helps in quickly apprehending the vile perpetrator. But if you arrive into a country which has just experienced a military coup and has imposed a 10pm curfew, wouldn't you exercise a little more caution on your first night?

Very sad. No curfew on samui then. Hope she recovers well and the attacker is court marshalled

Best wishes to these women. Be careful out there. It's not your fault, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. Some people seem to think it's acceptable.

Exercising caution is generally not done by tourists, as they have no idea how dangerous it can be late at night. Tourist brochures paint Thailand as a safe beach paradise, so why worry?

The curfew has never prevented people from being out at any time, in the tourist areas anyway.

Nice one. Blame the victims.

Just exactly what do you consider as high-risk activity they are guilty of ?

Walking back to their hotel ?

TAT keeps telling everything is fine and dandy in Thailand, please keep coming. Those who have booked and paid might still decide to come but you can be sure new bookings will take a nosedive and attitudes like yours will definitely not help either.

Kudos to the brave women to fight off this ****. The iPad should be easy to locate. Go and get 'em.

@ThaiMike

Nice one. Where did I blame the victims? Where did I mention anything about a high-risk activity?

I'm not the only one who has commented on the curfew in this incident nor am I the only the only one who has suggested being cautious.

I really do not understand the humanity of some commenters. Here we have two ladies, attacked and slashed, and what do some focus on.... a bloody curfew. What a bunch of loathsome #ankers. Hope the ladies recover quickly, and the attacker is summarily dealt with.

Hard to imagine the mentality of posters who are more worried about the victims not observing the curfew, than with the uninvited horror they experienced.

Confirmed that there is no curfew on Samui.

Heck we did not close down the bars for the past two elections.

Editor Comment:

We'd be surprised if there was a curfew on Phi Phi, too.

@laurie howells.. obviously this is a horrific attack on 2 tourists and no outpouring of sympathy on this page will be able to prevent it having happened.. the coup is in place and it is the responsibility of those running the coup to enforce it.. if they had been doing their job the attack would not have happened.. it should go without saying that i do not believe the attack to be the fault of the possibly uninformed victims.. the blame lies solely at the door of the attacker..
