Such an idea defeats the basis of all plane design with regards to redundancy and stand by systems.
The public may then experiment with passengerless pilotless planes.

I had been thinking once about going extensive kayaking trip to Tonga - that would mean kayaking for few hours at times in open seas, with spare infrastructure, and , yes, unpredictable weather and sea conditions almost every time of the year (like reported above in NZ). In addition, if you got unlucky lottery ticket, it's easy to fall as a victim in a such remote place, so far placed these plans on hold.

Make sure you dont mix up Tonga and Taronga as the result of kayaking in the waters of the latter can be quite dangerous, although the views are spectacular!

Though it would rather be called Honeywell Airlines the technology is still decades away (if ever) from sufficient stability not to need human oversight and intervention.

Computers lack one crucial capability - adaptability and improvisation.

Indeed. Some people still choose an airline on the basis of the reputation of pilots to get out of trouble.
