New technology making the combustion engine obsolet, new power sources becoming reliable, new designs, less maintenance, also self driving becoming possible, thanks to faster chips, but heavy to invest in (also building up the people with that knowledge while having a big chunk of powerful people, but without that knowledge). And in 2019 Apple wants to bring the iCar out in public. And in 2020 with the iCar S, it will be serious...
It is like the big fat telecommunication industry 25 years ago, giving birth to mobile communication, then to smart mobile computing. And now VW with that stupid thing, taking away precious cash flow, time and focus.
