PHUKET: Raids by a task force of 245 military and police personnel over three hours on Phuket today led to the arrests of five people.
Three of those arrested have been accused of encroachment attacks on public land.
A fourth was held and accused of carrying a gun and ammunition without permission, while the fifth was allegedly in possession of illegal kratom leaves.
A total of 14 premises were raided by Royal Thai Navy personnel, police and local government volunteers. It is believed the raid came after complaints to the Royal Thai Navy by residents.
Most of the premises raided were near the Satonpol community, in the vicinity of Phuket Zoo in southern Phuket.
Residents in the area have complained that as many as 20 young men have been terrorising the neighborhood in a dispute between residents who may be on public land and a person claiming to own a property title to part of the land.
