Phuket Robbers Used Electric Prod in Rape: Police

Thursday, June 17, 2010
TWO young men used an electric prod and knives in attacks on at least six women on motorcycles over a period of two months, Phuket police said today. One of the women was raped by the men, officers added.

Police said their sixth victim was attacked in a road opposite the new bus station in Thepkasattri Road about 6pm on Wednesday. The woman called 191 and police on motorcycles responded quickly.

An officer on a motorcycle attempted to stop two suspicious looking men on a motorcycle, but they sped on. The officer alerted other police, and the men were apprehended soon after.

The woman said the two men forced her to pull over by cutting across in front of her motorcycle, pointed a knife at her throat, then squeezed her breasts and kissed her on the cheek before riding off with her wallet and a mobile telephone.

In questioning at Phuket City police station, Noppadon Kedpon, 21, and Chaiwoot Pangsri, 20, admitted to the attack and five previous attacks, including the rape of one woman last Saturday.

The woman was kidnapped about 5.30am from her motorcycle near the Tiny coffee shop in Thepkassattri Road, Phuket City. The men used an electric prod to force the woman to stop, police said.

Then she was taken on the men's motorcycle to the Khao Khard Viewpoint on the south of Phuket, where she was raped, police said.

The men face six charges of robbery and one of rape.
