Phuket Post Office Drama: Six Nabbed Over Drugs Leaf Parcels

Wednesday, June 25, 2014
PHUKET: Six men were arrested at Phuket City Post Office by Marine Police yesterday as they attempted to collect parcels of the illegal narcotic leaf kratom, posted from Bangkok.

Two men were arrested in the car park about 12.30pm and within 30 minutes four more men were nabbed when they arrived to collect packages of kratom and two illegal cartons of cigarettes with a total weight of 19.2 kilos.

Marine Police were acting on a tip.

Trang men Pomanan Cheijid, 23, and Yuranan Wanna, 23, were the first pair arrested.

Those arrests were followed by the arrest of Abdulatep Jaoni, 22, from Phuket, and Pattani men Mapandee Matiyao, 25, Wehamad Taonahun, 27, and Sakariya Dura, 24.

Investigations were likely to extend to Bangkok.

I wish that the police were allowed to spend their time doing more constructive work. Kratom leaves are not toxic nor dangerous in their natural state.. Mitragyna Speciosa, has helped many people who are in pain, to quit hard drugs. There are many scientific studies that show that Kratom is a beneficial therapeutic plant.
If the honorable police were allowed to spend their time investigating corruption, instead of persecuting these poor men, many people would be safer, and happier. Repeal Kratom Prohibition today please.

I am so tired of the failed war on drugs, End all prohibition now its a drain on resources that could be used to fight real crime, the war on drugs is creating crime not reducing it.

I've been using kratom leaves for pain relief for many years and they are excellent. It breaks my heart to see such a useful herb demonized.

Kratom is excellent for stomach ailments, diarrhea and can be used by diabetics. In mild doses it is a stimulant and chewing a couple of leaves before a long walk gives more power and strength.

In higher doses it becomes a powerful analgesic giving relief from pain. Even mixed with cough medicine it is not a dangerous drug as it makes a person relaxed and peaceful.

Thailand could lead the way in the constructive use of kratom. Compared to alcohol or amphetamines kratom is harmless. After two decades of use I can say I've never seen a fight or violence committed by a kratom user.

The problem is people mixing in other things like mosquito coils or tramadol. If kratom was legalized and responsible use promoted, kratom could be a billion baht business for Thailand.

Prohibition only creates a black market and criminalizes people like myself who are using kratom for medical reasons. Most older Thai people do not consider kratom to be dangerous and support it's use for various ailments.

AM, you left out that users often suffer symptoms of verbal diarrhoea, illogical reasoning and the tendency to blame the US for other country's problems.

The biggest problem I see with kratom is pharmacists selling cough medicine to teenagers. Where I live there is a 'mom and pop' pharmacy run by two elderly Chinese. Their daughter who is the pharmacist is never there.

All day I see teenagers buying both cough medicine and tramadol. Even at night he closes the shop but still sells it through an opening in the front door like a crack house.

If I see and know this so do the police. He must be paying someone off as you cannot buy the cough medicine anywhere else.

Personally I'd rather see teenagers use kratom rather than 'ice' or 'yaa baa' but the problem with the cough medicine it is tends to make you passive and disinterested in doing much.

For an older person like me with a few chronic problems it is great but for teenagers it is not so good. I don't know the answer to the problem. All I know is prohibition only enriches the crooks.

Manowar, watch this video about the U.S.A. and see how informed on world affairs the average Yank is.

I recently met an American in Nakhon Si Thammarat who asked me where he could catch a train to the Philippines. His friend thought Australia was in Europe.

In the video one American couple seems to think Australia is Iran LOL.

AM, obviously just a conspiracy to maintain the pharmaceutical company stock values at the expense of the witch doctor industry!

"...it tends to make you passive and disinterested in doing much".
So it also provides attitude correction suitable for employment with local government!
There must have been a real supply shortage over the last month.

AM, have seen many similar videos and they do not representative of a nations knowledge. Some people just aren't interested in world affairs just as some aren't interested in sport. Anyway the US does not need me to defend it, they have TNM who could do so better than me/I.

AM, we need to be very careful what we say here as I am informed that the US has already planted a spy in Phuket to monitor the media. I believe that the person is undercover as a teacher and because of the coup, is soon to be recalled to headquarters. Prior to leaving, the agent ( TN007 I believe) has to train up a replacement ( code name SU3) who has been selected due to her close association with the general. The training is taking longer than expected as SU3 is the daughter of a US embassy staffer educated in Europe, with English as her second language.
At this stage I'm not sure who it is but I understand TN007 is known to frequently change names and often appears after dark.
