PHUKET: A man was killed in a motorcycle collision as he rushed through a red light in Phuket City late yesterday to catch a ferry home with his four-year-old son.
The boy, Chinpatthorn Kuldee, cried non-stop and could not be consoled as rescuers removed the body of his father, Rakchat, 36, from underneath a car stopped at the lights at the intersection of Poonpol Road with Rattanagosin 200 Pee Road.
The crash came about 6pm, said Police Major Sakol Kainara, with Khun Rakchat going through a red light as he attempted to hustle to Rassada to catch a ferry back to Kao Yai, where he worked as a fisherman.
A motorcycle travelling with the green light collided with Khun Rakchat's vehicle and in the crash he slid under a car, waiting to proceed once the lights changed to green.
The boy, slightly injured, was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital. His father's body was also taken there.
The other rider was uninjured.

As we have all said so many times, the standard of driving in Phuket is appalling. What a sad loss of life.
