UPDATE Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga Lashed by Severe Gusts: Boats Advised Not to Venture Out
Wednesday, September 16, 2015
AN ORDER prohibiting vessels of 10 metres or under from heading into the Andaman Sea from Phuket applies again on Thursday because of monsoon storms. Speedboats of all sizes are advised to consider safety of passengers, too.
PHUKET: Heavy rain is forecast all day across Phuket Krabi and Phang Nga today, with wind gusts of up to 50 kph. Boats under 10 metres are not allowed to venture out on the Andaman Sea, but meteorologists say Phang Nga Bay is equally dangerous in these conditions. ''Waves of one or two metres can be whipped up well beyond that in strong gusts,'' a forecaster said.

There is a kind of taifun in progress on W.Andaman coast of Phang Nga now. Hope it will not lead to massive arosions like last year. Strong gusts already for half an hour. But still nothing even close what experience usually Hong Kong,Vietnam or Philippines

Editor Comment:
A lot more work needs doing on tourism safety. Let's hope the new governor is going to make it a priority.
Sue Phuket is only 7 degrees North of the equator. Severe winds, hurricanes North and cyclones south are mainly 15 to 30 Degrees from the Equator. The different being they rotate in opposite directions. When you say taifun is that Thais having fun or a typhoon. Please be more specific Sue. Maybe your systray is full and you need to re-boot you brain.

@Phuket119 - nothing changed in the eight years I lived in Phuket, except know it is overcrowded with rude Chinese and used to have a mix of Europeans. Look at arrivals from about 11pm from places I and most have never heard of it China. They move around in buses pumping out black smoke and descent on 7/11's like a loud plaque of locusts. Many European's don't want to go any more and Thailand seems happy with the Chinese so let them have them. I see Chinese in other parts of the world and they are not a loud or rude as the Chinese in Phuket, must be a special low class of Chinese. Bars, restaurants are closing down now as the Chinese often stop at favourite restaurants where they have a "friend" there. They are also terrible swimmers so to go out on a day like this tells us that money is more important than safety. Such a great place Phuket, know globally for it's morales and high value of life.

Thankls for elaborating.
But many people don't know difference in typhoon/hurricanes between Thaialnd South and Vietnam/Phillipines/HongKong, they assume (wrongly), either that (1) Thailand and those regions got just storms like here (hence, ignorant calls "we'll move to Vietnam off Phuket") OR (2) they became super-scary when they hear about approaching storm in Thailand, expecting Katrina grade or so.
However, I noticed that your lateral orifice is directly interconnected to on your, erh, face. Just curious, are you taking exercise for a kind of space trip, preparing to recycle everything that you produce one or another way..? Also it seems that you use MS-DOS stations for that..

About Chinese tourists. Me and my wife are playing golf 3 times a week. Monday on PCC hole no. 4, suddenly out on the left dogleg, two Chinese tourists walked straight out on the fareway to take pictures. This is not the first time. They give a s*** about the warning signs.

I think it was job of management and personnel to provide that such customers don't injure enjoyment of other patrons - they normally have to be reprimanded and explained the Rules of the house.
But haven't ever cross by mistake into some area with no access, behaved inappropriately because of didn't grasped all aspects of situation..?
I think we should be quite lenient to Chinese tourists as beginners.
On personal level they are quite friendly and attentive people.
But yes, emerging markets economic pressure make them habitually "to move fast ahead toward a goal" without much of consideration of context. All over the region Chinese are or will be dominating visitors segment from now on, at least for this century.
