A Phuket truck crash leaves police pondering a quick solution to gridlock

Phuket Highway Holdup: Truck Crash Triggers Five Kilometre Jam

Sunday, September 23, 2012
PHUKET: The main north-south artery on Phuket was blocked for about 30 minutes after an unusual crash yesterday.

Southbound traffic backed up for five kilometres in Thepkasattri Road about 10.30am.

An articulated truck, loaded with construction industry equipment, was backing into premises in Phuket's Srisoonthorn district, north of the Heroines Monument.

A white pickup driven by Matichai Prabdin, 29, failed to stop in time and crashed into the reversing truck.

It wasn't clear what precautions the driver of the truck, Taweesak Lagka, 30, had taken to make sure other drivers were aware of the manoeuvre.

The extended delay of traffic is likely to add to the cause of proponents of a second north-south highway being built on Phuket as soon as possible

Thailand, the hub of "unusual crashes".

"It wasn't clear what precautions the driver had taken to make sure other drivers were aware of the manoeuvre.

Hazards, maybe.

What is the pickup doing on the right side of the road, in the very right lane, please?
Passing by, quickly, before the ongoing traffic started in it's lane?
"An articulated truck ..... was backing into premises"
That isn't done in 5 sec's. To be in this position needs the driver some 30 seconds, minimum. Or has anyone seen a backing like this gone quickly, here?

Most probably none, as usual. Why should they...?
Happens often enough on the bypass road, it's just a miracle that there are not more accidents
