PHUKET: A safety runoff zone is being constructed on Phuket's Patong Hill so that buses and trucks have somewhere to go if they fail to make it up and over the hill . . . or run into problems on the descent. The 5.3 million baht construction will also provide parking off the roadway where ambulances can wait for the crunch of a crash.
Started on May 26, the steep cliffside build is expected to be completed by November 26.

Just looking at where this runoff has been built scares the daylights out of me.
If the bus runs into this layby without brakes, what will stop the bus from flying over the side of the wall? No, this just means in the future, I will avoid the hill at all costs.
A better solution would be to just ban buses going over the hill fullstop.
