Business owners in Patong crowd to hear the new police chief

New Patong Police Chief Says Bangla Touts Will Be Tagged

Thursday, May 17, 2012
PHUKET: A total of 104 Patong entertainment business owners and managers met with the new chief of Patong police yesterday as he told them of his plan to keep the holiday hub on the straight and narrow.

Colonel Sramphan Sirikong recently replaced Colonel Arayapan Pukbuakao as Superintendent of Kathu Police Station, which oversees the Patong and the surrounding region on Phuket's west coast.

The colonel told the entertainment business leaders that he intended to control crime and wanted Patong to present the best possible image to visiting tourists, especially along the popular Soi Bangla walking street.

Most of the people who packed the third floor room at the station to hear what Colonel Sramphan had to say have businesses in or near Soi Bangla.

As a step towards making sure tourists could feel as safe as possible, each of the businesses would be issued with a shirt with a number on it, he said, indicating the identity of the street ''salesperson.''

Photographs and personal details of each of the individual ''salespeople'' were to be provided to police and updated as required, the colonel said.

Yes, they are different for you, because you are different in any answers: you know any right answers that readers don't know. Lucky you!?!

No. But the touts in Soi Bangla are selling entry to bars and nightclubs while those along the beach road are more interested in selling suits or time share.

Well, good luck with this job, let's see in years time if it was a job well done or not.

Hmmmm, basically the same story 2 years ago about cleaning up the streets. By the time the last guy's tenure was up the tout problem was worse than ever and his numbered shirt system disappeared into the ether. Time stands still and Deja Vu Patong style! I do like the comment about the Col controlling crime though!

The Thais who try to sell sunglasses, wrist bands and things are great i think and part of the whole experience i think. The foreign ones who hassle people about timeshares and club tickets are the worst. Lying, rude scxxxxxxxx for the most part. Why not go home and get real jobs with prospects?
