PHUKET: The naked body of a Causasian man with a cupid's arrow and heart tattooed on an arm was found floating off Phuket's luxurious Amanpuri Resort today.
Police are keen to identify the man, who was wearing only a diver's hood when a fishing trawler crew spotted his body about 9am off the resort's secluded headland, north of popular Surin beach.
The heart and cupid arrow are tattooed on the man's right arm.He also has a second tattoo on his other hand but it was illegible.
He is 178 cm tall and appears heavy-set. Rescuers estimated he had been in the water for as long as five days.
Fishing crew told police the man's body was found floating face down. He was not wearing any clothing, apart from what appeared to be a diving hood.
Police will be checking to see whether any tourists or expats have recently been reported missing.
Police have no theories as yet on how the man may have met his death. Plenty of speedboats, dive boats and liveaboards ply the Andaman sea between Phuket, Phang Nga and dive sites.
A diver earlier this year went overboard from a vessel in what friends said was a suicide because of terminal health issues.
The body of the man found off Phuket today was taken to Thalang Hospital for examination. It may well be shifted later to the morgue at Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City.
