PROTESTERS abandoned their blockade at 8.20pm after being told the dangerous curve would be redesigned and lighting provided for what they consider a dangerous stretch.
Original Report
PHUKET: Residents have blocked the main road north of Phuket to complain about the number of trucks and crashes in their stretch of road.
The blockade began at 4.30pm between Tai Muang and Kokloi and was still in operation at 6pm, with vehicles being forced to take a diversion around the protest.
About 50 residents were objecting to the number of crashes in that stretch if road, and to the size of the vehicles going through their village. The Governor of Phang Nga was believed to be on the way to settle the dispute.
As a person who drives this stretch of road day in day out i fully concur with these protests but this has nothing to do with the road but more to the manner in which untrained and speeding truck drivers behave on the road. i regularly have to pull in of the road while speeding trucks riding feet of my bumper try overtaking around blind corners etc...i hope something is done about this
