One of the two suspects, held on the floor at Kathu Police Station today

Knife Wielding Bag Snatch Suspects Failed Twice and Were Nabbed in Five Minutes, Say Patong Police

Sunday, July 13, 2014
PHUKET: Two knife-wielding suspect tourist-robbers were nabbed within five minutes in Patong early today because of a speedy response by police.

Winesses saw the pair try to slash the shoulder strap on the bag of a Chinese tourist at 1.45am at the southern end of Patong's beach road.

Police were contacted immediately, said Lieutenant Colonel Nikorn Chootong, of Kathu Police Station.

The men are said to have sped on their motorcycle along beach road, past the police box at the end of Soi Bangla.

A second robbery was tried but as in the first attempted robbery, the men failed to grab a bag being carried by a bar worker at 1.47am.

Meanwhile, patrol officers at Loma Park further along beach road had been alerted.

''We intercepted the approaching suspects,'' the lieutenant colonel said.

The motorcycle crash and one of the men was pinned under the machine. The other took off on foot up Prabaramee Road, but was quickly apprehended. The time: 1.50am.

Officers attributed the speedy capture of the suspects to security cameras and the Patong Safety Zone system, which involves the whole community in preventing crime.

Police were today continuing to question Surisak Charoenchai, 18, of Patong and Worawit Pensuk, 20, of Kamala. One of the men was caught with a short knife in his possession, Lt Nikorn said.

I can not figure out why these CCTV cameras never show Police the ping pong or slow loris touts.

Ed don't know if you'll print this, but I can show Thai police how to get a confession using very extreme pain and not leave one tiny mark on the suspects body? Want to know the secret, ask a South African Interrogator. Works every time.
