Paramedics attend the scene at Dream Village where the woman fell

German Expat Plunges to Her Death at Phuket Villa Changing Light Strip

Sunday, September 13, 2015
PHUKET: A German woman plunged from a stepladder in her villa to her death on Phuket today while changing a neon light, local police believe.

The woman, aged 76, whose name has been given to Phuketwan, was found dead on the floor, dressed in a red dress and blue shoes, about 1pm.

A plaster cast on her left arm may have restricted her ability to successfully change the neon strip bulb.

Her body was found on the floor at Dream Village in Phuket's Thalang district and taken later to Thalang Hospital.

Sad to hear this. Unlike the west (where ceramic tile is expensive) - rock-hard floors maim and kill many locals and tourists when they slip and fall.

There seems to be a very high number of deaths on Phuket. I rarely read about similar things in the UK or Australia when I am there?

The newspapers in the West don't cover these kinds of deaths, Paradise. We report them because there is no coronial system here.

How tragic, I would hate to think of my mother ending her days like that.

I am sure any one of us would gladly have popped round to help her change it.

How terriby sad.

Ed, if there is no coronial system how do the authorities decide the cause of death. Clearly there are many causes but where would you draw the line for an investigation? I appreciate some countries are richer than others but surely the people would want to know how their family, friends cause of death. Could they not have a referendum to decide if they want a coroner introduced?

Editor Comment:

Usually a police report suffices in terms of the causes of a death. Not many police accounts are challenged. More time and money is spent on the needs of the living.
