Governor Nisit Jansomwong says councils must not approve 'floods' projects

Councils Must Prevent Floods on Phuket in Future, Says Governor

Monday, September 28, 2015
PHUKET: Governor Nisit Jansomwong, in his last ''meet the media'' conference today, said that on September 10 he signed off on a new rule for Phuket that makes it obligatory for all local municipal authorities to make sure canals and water runoffs are not obstructed when approval is given for new projects. Blocked water paths are said to be the cause of Patong's chronic flooding.

What about a rule, that blocked anti-flood runoffs have to be unblocked immediately? Or is that rocket science?

Forgive me if I seem slightly cynical but now that Gov Nisit has two days to go it seems that he's finally tackling perennial problems such as jet-skis and the yearly flooding. Next thing we know he'll be urging water conservation and safe driving... Next!!
