Passengers burst into song in Bangkok in a loud protest

Chinese Tourists Penalised for Singing, Hooting at Bangkok Airport

Saturday, September 12, 2015
PHUKET: Authorities have named and shamed four travellers over an incident last week at Don Muang Airport in Bangkok in which they vented their frustration by belting out the Chinese national anthem, reports The Associate Press.

The four were part of a group from Chongqing whose Orient Thai Airlines flight home had been delayed by eight hours because of maintenance and heavy rain.

When the plane arrived, they refused to board until their compensation demands were met, then broke into the national anthem amid hooting, shouts and general chaos in the departure lounge.

The Chongqing tourism bureau subsequently blacklisted 33 people from the group, requesting all travel agencies not to accept them as members of tour groups, according to a report in the Western China City Daily, a newspaper in Chengdu in Sichuan province.

The China National Tourism Administration agency said on Saturday that it had added the travellers' names to its list of those accused of ''uncivilised behavior''.

Rising incomes and cheap flights have resulted in record numbers of Chinese travelling domestically and abroad. Among other complaints are line-cutting, smoking in public, littering and fouling public toilets..

The future of Phuket tourism is pinned on these groups ?

If I had to board a Orient Thai flight, I'd be praying, not singing.

If that request for compensation was a legitinmate one, what's the rpoblem? They just inisted on enforcing tehir rights that have been abused.

Howeever, if that was a charter flight it probably depends on conditions of carriage, and whether they bought it as a package tour and applicable legislation and contract itself.

Perhaps windscreen wipers don't work on OT planes. Last time I flew with them, the pilot had to open the windows and clean them with a cloth before take off. As if that wasn't enough to put me off flying with them, I then had to endure an hour and a half of fidgeting, noisy chinese tourists.

its uncivilized to sing the national anthem? in the usa they would receive medals for patriotism.

Their provincial (?) and national travel authorities have banned 32 people from traveling because 4 in their group sang the national anthem ?!? Wow. Glad I'm not Chinese.

How do we report them to the authorities and get them arrested? Can the authorities put not hanging clothes on sprinklers as part of their education? You would think it's common sense but it's not, we have had several cases of sprinklers going off with these people putting clothes hangers on them?! despite having put up signages and having tour guides explain to them.

Must be a coincidence but I'm reading a travel book by Paul Theroux in which he describes the Chinese as wonderfully hospitable.
