BANGLA SUITES burst on the scene last night with a media party that was strong on machismo and masculine reds and blacks.

The launch party on site in Soi Bangla attracted a crowd who were keen to see for themselves what was on offer at Patong's ''jacuzzi condominiums.''

Co-ownership, the acceptable modern version of time-share, is from all accounts proving to be an attractive proposition.

The development of 47 one-bedroom units and seven penthouses is still under construction and, according to an Absolute group spokesman, due for completion in May.

Prices for co-ownership of penthouses begin at 600,000 baht.

The show unit, site of the party last night, has a Bangla Suites club/bar area below it, on the ground floor fronting Soi Bangla.

The promoters say in a brochure that returns will be seven percent for five years, ''plus all the fun at your fingertips!''

According to Absolute Group chairman Bryan Lunt, in difficult economic times buyers find co-ownership a more attractive prospect.

''It is a perfect option for someone who doesn't want to own the entire property, yet still use it,'' he said in a media handout.

''We found that over 80 percent of our members are repeat tourists to Phuket and other destinations in Thailand, and they have shown interest to own properties.''

''Turn on your lifestyle'' is the sales message, and there was a glass of red wine waiting beside the jacuzzi.
