What the management says: We have been established for a long time and have a lot of local people who keep coming back to visit.

What Phuketwan says: At night, Phuket View hangs across Rang Hill like a tiara of light. It's a half-way house on the way to the top of the hill, and a perfect place to escape the heat of the city for those in search of a breeze and a little peace. It's possible on some evenings to actually look down across Phuket City to the ocean and see the Lego houses being built at fast-forward speed. At least, that's how it sometimes seems. Relaxing lunches or evening meals here have been know to stretch a long, long way. Sunsets are always memorable and it's one of a string of places on the island that are ideal for romance. And yes, the food is good. There can be times, though, when a local concoction can be too bitter or spicy, so it's best to consult the staff. The menu offers photos and descriptions in Thai and English. The fruit drinks are excellent and a serving of ruam mit icecream or a huge banana split is a great way to finish.

How to find it: Walk, run or drive up the main road from Maeluan Road to the hill, past the Buddhist nunnery.

Parking: Phuket View has a huge carpark opposite with piped music, up the hill and turn right.
