THE 2010 Phuket Property Dot Com Pro Am Invitational tees off November 5 at the Blue Canyon Country Club. Golf professionals and amateurs come together to raise money for the Phuket Has Been Good To Us foundation.
Top ranking Thai golf pro, Udorn Duangdecha, will join a growing list of golf stars at the Phuket event.
The field includes many top golf professionals from around the world and from within Thailand. Udorn, who turned pro in 2000, is known for his bright dress sense on the course. Earlier this year he won the 2010 Singha Pattaya Open and finished fifth in the recent 2010 Thailand Open.
''I am looking forward to taking part in the Phuket Property Dot Com Pro Am Invitational. It's great to see an event like this in Phuket and also to support a worthy charity cause in the Phuket Has Been Good To Us foundation. Blue Canyon's 'Canyon Course' is always a challenge and I'm sure all involved will enjoy the event.''
Joining Khun Udorn from Thailand are two female rookies who turned professional earlier this year - Kurika Jang and Chayuda Singhsuwan. In her first pro tournament, the 2010 Orient Wenzhou Championship (China LPGA tour), Khun Chayuda came a very respectable third and is a Thai talent to watch.
Peter Bolton, Co-founder of Phuket Property Dot Com, said: "We're proud to be the title sponsor. The line up of pros is very exciting and I'm sure together with their help we will be able to raise lots of money for charity."
There are more than 200 international-standard golf courses in Thailand, with more planned in Bangkok and other tourist destinations. Golf tourism is a niche market and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is targetting more international golf visitors especially from Japan, Malaysia and China. TAT expect Thailand to become the golf hub of Asia in the next five years.
Phuket has been host to many golf competitions - amateur, professional and corporate golf events. Its reputation for quality courses and a delightful tropical playing environment continues to attract competition organisers from near and far. Phuket now boasts nine courses.
The latest event will be followed by a four-course gala dinner at Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket in the evening. All proceeds from the event will go to Phuket Has Been Good To Us foundation.
International golf professionals confirmed include five-time winner on the Asian Tour Simon Yates (Scotland) who is also in the Top 10 career money winners list; five-time winner and longest hitter on the Asian Tour Scott Hend (Aus); ten-time winner on the Asian Tour Gerry Norquist (US); Jason Knutzon (US) who is currently in the Top 10 money list for this year (Asian Tour); Lam Chih Bing (Singapore) winner of the 2008 Volvo Masters of Asia, Thailand (Asian Tour) and number one pro in Singapore; Keith Horne (South Africa), winner of 2007 Namibia PGA Championship; James Kamte (South Africa) winner of 2009 Asian Tour International, Thailand (Asian Tour); Chris Rodgers (UK) winner of 2010 Camry Invitational, China; and Scott Barr (Aus).
All golfers will receive a goody bag valued at more than 3000 baht. Entry for members of Blue Canyon Country Club is 7000 baht, and 9000 baht for non-members. To play, contact info@phukethasbeengoodtous.org
