Paws off: Beauties at the Latitude party raised more than funds

Beauties Bring Out the Be(a)st in Phuket Paws

Thursday, October 21, 2010
SATURDAY October 9 witnessed yet another stylishly funky fund raising event at Laguna Phuket's new Latitude venue in support of the Phuket Animal Welfare Society.

The theme of the evening was taken from Disney's Beauty and the Beast - and with a plethora of Beautiful Women and Beastly Men on display, the theme was clearly taken to heart by the masses.

It all started with an incredible Indigo Pearl hosted cocktail reception followed by a fabulous Banyan Tree buffet, which was swiftly devoured to make way for the dancing.

The top auction prize included a first class trip to London generously donated by Qatar Airways, now flying direct to Phuket from Doha via Kuala Lumpur.

Paws Operations Director said: ''It was a terrific evening and we are extremely grateful for the generosity, yet again of the people of Phuket for supporting us in such a positive way.''

The folks at Paws really know how to throw a party, but the purpose of the event was to raise much needed to funds to allow Paws to expand and develop its field clinic operations around Phuket in 2011.

As the 200 guests partied the night away, enough money was raised to ensure that these plans go ahead. ''It's fantastic to know that we can run these field clinics next year and do so much for the stray animals here in Phuket.

''We're providing a community service and it's great that people recognise that,'' said the event organiser, Russell D. Russell.

Photos from the event are on the website and you can get more information on Paws from www.pawsphuket.com

Editor Comment:

Can't see what the occupations of the people has to do with it, David. Are you really as snobbish as that makes you sound? I hope not. You've been moderated because if what you claimed isn't true, we could be sued.

It's such a shame that people need to be entertained to feel charitable and to be charitable so publicly - especially for an animal charity. People first, animals second.

Yes, Tanya, you are so right. Having a good time should not be spoiled by doing good. You are so right. Animals! They should take care of themselves. Out of my house!

Any publicity for animal causes is great in my book. The rate of animal extinction is 1000 times higher now than its historical norm. To Lena and Tanya, google a list of extinct and endangered animals and take a look at some of the most magnificent creatures that have already perished or will soon perish. Almost all endangered animals are endangered because of human activity. I think your attitude is deplorable.

I would like to offer my help in answering any questions that David may have? My friend and I are pictured supporting the event in this article. Which by the way was a great night, raising awareness and much needed funds for a well worthy local charity!

Sorry Antz Patz, it seems the irony tag was lost in translation...

Really dislike Tayna's comment. Maybe if you have seen the amount of stray dogs in Phuket, you may think twice about writing narrow-minded comments.

Ellie, I made more than one comment. Did you mean all of them? I see nothing narrow minded in them, no more than yours, anyway. Yes, I've seen the dogs, and the people. I know which group should take priority.

Antz Pantz, what is deplorable about caring for humans?

Sigh, the animal-rights mafia out in force in Phuketwan... Stray dog or abandoned child: which would you save first?

As always I get to phuketwan late, but do need to have a say.

First things humans will always come first because it is our born instinct to be first in every thing. But, without having the compassion for looking after our companions,we would be such a selfish race of humans. Luckily there are only a few out there that think like this.

Are we not thankful to the dogs, monkeys, rats and mice for giving their lives so we can live. Think about that next time you take a tablet. I loved all my dogs, animals that I had, but now I am looking after my son full time. Thank you, to the animal world.

A lot of money was raised for a good cause, so take your negative comments elsewhere. These events are held to raise awareness and publicity, not just for people to have a party. If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all, Tanya
