EACH YEAR the fair at Chalong Wat brings crowds and fun. Especially at night, it's the place to be seen.
The attractions of the fair have been so great in the past that Burmese laborers have been arrested there for breaking the 8pm curfew.
This year is no exception, with the 2008 version jam-packed with things to do and see and scheduled to run nightly until February 12.
Locals know it's the place to buy clothes, souvenirs, and to have a reasonably priced meal at any of the restaurants that spring up within the grounds of the wat.
There's also the chance to catch some singing groups and dancers on stage.
Stalls offer all kinds of local delights, and some imported from Isarn, too.
The wat at Chalong is on Chao Fa Road West and well-signposted, and the fairgrounds are open until late.
Chalong fair runs until February 12.
