PHUKET: Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra chose to attend in person a hearing before the National Anti-Corruption Commission in Bangkok this afternoon.
Accompanied by lawyers carrying many documents, Khun Yingluck entered the building shortly before 3pm.
She was expected to mount her defence against negligence charges linked to a controversial rice subsidy scheme.
However, she left the building after 30 minutes, leaving defence of the case to her legal team.
A negative finding by the NACC could trigger her removal from office and a ban from politics. A bid to push back the deadline for her defence was rejected.
Onlookers fear any attempt to remove Khun Yingluck could trigger a violent reaction from her supporters, who are mostly also supporters of her fugitive brother Thaksin, a former prime minister of Thailand.
