Wet Weather Predicted for Phuket Over New Year on Monsoon's Outskirts

Monday, December 29, 2014
PHUKET: Rain is being predicted for New Year with the Phuket meteorologists saying clouds will continue to blot the horizon for a little while yet.

Wind speeds will vary between 5 kph and 30 kph, with Phuket feeling the effects of being on the outskirts of the monsoon rains being dumped over the Gulf in the south.

On the Similan islands, officials say that speedboats have agreed to leave before 4pm to avoid the worst of the storms and higher waves that are now a regular daily feature.

Officials say the erection of new signage in Thai, English and Chinese should help to make the Similans safer, with 86 staff now on the park payroll.

I hope it would be pouring rain all New Year eve and as a result the insane and incredibly irritating firecracker assault would be reduced to tolerable levels.

Thai speedboats are not designed for open sea/ocean conditions, just for LAKES only. And with 'moderate' sea conditions these boatdrivers sail to fast! Thai Speedboat constructions are not strong enough for that. Wait for the day that a speedboat is falling apart at the ocean!

Herbert, you are becoming old&boring, as if firecrackers are allowed in such volumes then on NY (and bar them on other occasion).
Otherwise it would looks like NY Party in health&wellness hotel - sad with poker-faced patrons - I once got by mistake into such party in "health hotel", so now I know how it is without firecrackers :))

@ sky

I have 2 dogs, both absolutely terrified of fireworks. We have had seasonal tenants launch fireworks in the middle of the night AND in the middle of the housing estate, completely oblivious to disturbance caused.

This at times nowhere close to New Year.
