THE MAN was British and aged 67, according to police. He arrived yesterday and at 3.30pm requested a taxi from a Nai Yang resort to go to the airport, officers say. His luggage has been found in his room. He flew in from Kuala Lumpur and was due to leave Phuket on April 14. His name is being withheld until relatives have been notified.

Original Report

PHUKET: The body of a Caucasian man was found embedded in sand at Nai Yang beach on Phuket when the tide receded early today.

Police from Tachatchai station joined national park rescue workers at the beach near Sirinath National Park about 6.30am. The beach is close to Phuket International Airport.

Photographs of the scene showed a man of average height, dressed in long black shorts, white underwear and a blue-black and white check shirt.

He was also wearing black short-topped boots.

Theft has been discounted as having any connection to the death. Police found notes in more than one currency in the man's pockets, together with credit cards.

Police have yet to reveal the identity or nationality on the cards.

The body was taken to Thalang Hospital.
