Tiger Lifts Flights from Singapore to Phuket

Friday, March 12, 2010
INCREASED demand has led Tiger Airways is to fly new noon flights on Fridays and Sundays to Phuket from Singapore, in addition to morning and evening flights.

Starting from April 20, Tiger Airways will also fly daily from Singapore to Krabi and Had Yai. This is double the current frequency - four per week to Krabi and three per week to Hat Yai.

The new midday flights on Fridays and Sundays to Phuket bring the total flights to the island each week to 14. Bangkok, another popular destination, will remain at 20 flights per week.

Rosalynn Tay, Managing Director of Tiger Airways Singapore, said, ''Within Southeast Asia, our Thailand routes have been getting so popular that we have decided to double our flights to Krabi and Hat Yai, and serve Phuket more often on weekends.

''We are happy that our famous low, low fares have helped people travel more often, and boost tourism in both Thailand and Singapore.''

Tiger "lifts" flights would normally be interpreted as saying that it's CANCELLING them. Not a great choice of words. Surely "boosts" or "ups" would be much better. I only read this story because I thought the airline had decided to cancel all its flights to Phuket!

Editor: We'd never use ''lift'' in that way. Poor choice of words somewhere else.
