Friday, August 1, 2014
UPDATING All Day, Every Day

A man who was feared dead, probably swept from Phuket rocks last night was found alive - sleepy and more than a little drunk - in darkness several hours after being reported missing.

Original Report

PHUKET: A tourist was feared swept from rocks at a Phuket beach yesterday and is missing, presumed dead - the second monsoon wave victim within days.

Theerawat Prasomsub, 25, from Ranong, was clambering on rocks at Nai Harn, the southernmost beach on Phuket, when he was reported by his family to have been swept away yesterday.

Searchers are still looking to recover his body.

The body of Somchai Yungtala, 30, who was swept from the rocks as he fished near Phuket's Cape Promthep on Tuesday afternoon, was found washed ashore at Ya Nui beach yesterday.

Khun Somchai, a musician, was visiting Phuket with his girlfriend from Koh Yao Yai.

Authorities have repeatedly warned that rocks around Phuket's coast are dangerous.

Since this is the umpteenth death because of people like to climb over the rocks, wouldn't it be appropriate to put up a barrier or a large sign right near these areas? I mean a cost of a sign is less than 10,000 Baht.
It is time Phuket shows some seriousness to the lives of tourists.

TBS a sign will change absolutely nothing when you are drunk and sleepy.

TBS,

to barriers exactly where?

It was not Promthep Cape.

And for the last one I guess there are signs, it is possible just to close entrance there, but most visitors behave responsibly.

If you Google for dangerous sports resulting in deaths, fishing is remarkably high on the list with people falling out of boats, off river banks or as in this case of rocks when sea fishing.
