The crash in which a pregnant woman, her unborn baby and a nurse died as the mother-to-be was being rushed to hospital

Prenant Woman, Krabi Nurse Killed as Ambulance Slides Off Road in Rains

Sunday, March 16, 2014
PHUKET: A nine-months pregnant woman being rushed to hospital in Krabi died along with a nurse when their ambulance skidded on a curve and overturned as the first rains fell for three months.

A man who stopped to help at the crash scene in Klong Tom was struck by another vehicle and is seriously injured after being transferred to Trang Hospital.

Salarh Wajedee, 17, was unable to give birth naturally on Koh Lanta so doctors decided she should be taken to Krabi Hospital in Krabi Town, on the mainland. Her mother and two nurses rode with her.

When the ambulance driver Pomsak Nawathavorn, 30, slipped off the road surface, Khun Salarh was killed along with one nurse, Wanwilai Kokyai, 37. Mother Haveda Wajedee, 58, and nurse Aurgkana Peachmanee, 42, survived with injuries.

Stopping his pickup to lend a hand, Herm Kajadpai, 50, was struck and seriously injured by Abdullmalleat Jamsai, 60, in another pickup.

Data bases put Thailand second or third on the list of the world's worst places for road crashes and deaths per head of population.

Shocking. Studies show that road markings, signage, strict law enforcement and driver training reduce traffic accidents. In Phuket all these safety measures are circumvented. There are traffic lights where the count down to green doesn't always work properly that causes dangerous situations. Yet who cares? Nothing less than negligent and beyond belief. Law enforcement - nah, why bother?

How sad is this, the poor mother to be and the baby, and the nurse... , all because of bad driving skills, and also the Good Samaratin, who stopped, he is seriously injured too, shocking, puts shivers up my spine, at the loss of life..

I wish people would just slow down and be more careful, thats all i read about is Road Fatalaties...
R.I.P.

That is a tragedy. Roads can be very slippery after long dry periods when the first rains come.

All in favour of reducing road deaths in Thailand, please raise your right foot.
