Asia Luxe's offer to provide a police escort anywhere in Thailand has prompted criticism that these services ''should only be provided for government officers, politicians, royal people or ordinary people who are seriously in an emergency.
''Police should spend their time helping other people, not providing this VIP service to ordinary people just because they can afford it,'' says celebrity Mannarumas 'Yingmann' Yukol.
Asia Luxe is promoting the police motorcade service in this fashion on its internet site:
''Enjoy your stay in Thailand in the most exciting way. Spoil yourself with a Police escort from the airport to your hotel, for a night out in Bangkok or for a special tour in Thailand.
''This service was previously exclusively reserved to superstars and Heads of state. We give you a special access to a unique experience.''
The Bangkok airport Immigration service offers a greeting by immigration officers at the gate of the plane followed by:
..Connection to VIP / diplomatic counter by electric buggy
..Extra fast visa on arrival / no queue or waiting time
..Escort to your vehicle at the gate of your choice
Khun Yingmann is likely to be joined by other critics as news spreads of the extras that can be provided by Royal Thai Police and Immigration.
At Asia Luxe, a spokesman who gave his name as Damien told Phuketwan today that Asia Luxe could process customers through immigration at Suvarnabhumi Airport without queuing.
Then a police escort could lead the customer on to their destination with a minimum of traffic problems.
Asia Luxe online says its services are ''completely legal.''
''These services are available to all. We are simply getting them together and coordinating all different departments for our operations.''
2 times in one week I witnessed about a dozen officers employed to block traffic so a VIP could get to a resort. Resources would be better spent issuing speeding tickets (as if that ever happens.)
