Phuketwan traces Pian Keesin's journey today in pictures

Pisona Non Grata, the Keesin Clan Check in at Police Cells: Photo Special

Monday, September 1, 2014
PHUKET: Former Mayor Pian Keesin, wanted as a suspect in an anti-corruption investigation that could change the face of Patong and Phuket, surrendered to police today after first going to the Royal Thai Navy base.

The Navy organised a minivan to take him, his son Peun and five other people to Phuket City Police Station. Patong businessman Prab Keesin, the former mayor's other son, made his way to Phuket City police and the group, all connected to the Keesin family's Pisona-branded business, stayed in the cells at the police station awaiting the results of a bail application. The bail application was rejected.

Whilst people with minor charges I often see hand cuffed, this suspect gets flowers. Looks more like a welcome party than an arrest. Nevertheless, good to see.

Editor Comment:

People facing white-collar charges are treated differently to those facing charges for drugs or crimes of violence, Resident. It's the same in most countries. If the Keesins were the Mafia, a notorious group known for murder, torture and drug dealing, it would be different. Fortunately, Phuket has no real Mafia.

ED.
In Spanish what was happening in Patong, is consistent with the definition of mafia.
Perhaps has another meaning in English

The word is misused in Thailand, too.

Ed, Phuket has no real Mafia, some of the Thai's I know will disagree with you on that one, most of them have guns stuffed down the backs of their jeans, they are organised criminals in the true sense of the word, that equates to Mafia in my language.

Carrying a gun does not make you Mafia, coxo. But using it to kill does. Fortunately, Phuket has no Mafia.
