''The key factor for the hotel business is lifting martial law, at least in resort destinations such as Phuket, Krabi, Samui, Hua Hin and Cha-am,'' said President Surapong Techaruvichit. The Phuket model, which purports to clamp down on the taxi mafia and other scams and clean up the beaches on the island, was a good start and should be applied to other destinations.

The problem for the tourism industry is not martial law, and the mentioned inability to buy insurance is for most people simply not true.

What we are seeing at the moment is the result from the months and months of unrest and inaction. In the present state and with the present actions tourism will pick up again, but that simply takes time.

I suspect a senior diplomat is selflessly dining at Jules Verne, Le Tour d'Argent, Les Ambassadeurs et al followed by shopping trips along Ave Montaigne (with expenses, of course) whilst keeping an eye on the woman - all in the name of national security.
